KAOS KAROLINER

I've been wanting to build a Traitor army ever since Eye of Terror came out, although some of the units included in the renegades list was a bit too weird. It felt a little bit like a Circus army.

And I was working on my Dark Eldar so there was no time to build a force based on the Eye of Terror list.

Along came Forgeworlds Imperial Armor 5: The Siege of Vraks. It had 2 really cool and colorful army lists included. An Imperial Guard list with lots of new fun stuff that the aging regular IG codex had. And of course beautiful resin models. It was the Death Korps of Krieg. Great fluff and I was sold and started collecting them. To make a long story short: About 2500 USD later and far from done I decided to skip it and sold it all on Ebay. It was just too expensive. But they were actually a lot of fun to play. Maybe a bit too good.

So what next?

In the same book there was another list. Renegades of Vraks. A counter-siege army based on Imperial Guard, with access to a lot of fun toys. Not as flavorful as the kriegs but hey, it's renegades. Bad guys!

The miniature range was not as broad as for the Death Korps but that was almost better for me. More to build and convert myself, and it would be better for the finances. Not so many nice miniatures to get tempted to invest in.

I've got about 1500pts built at the moment and will add a couple of rare items in games such as the Dreadclaw Chaos Space Marine Drop Pod and hopefully a big Malacador Heavy Tank.

The color scheme is based on old Swedish army colors. "Svenska Karoliner". Basically blue and yellow which also are the colors of the Swedish flag. I gave them a racing stripe down the forehead to make them look a little more hipper. I wanted them to be dirty, weathered and torn. Mud everywhere, rust on everything meta and on tanks and vehicles.

I made my own bases out of cardboard to keep the models closer to the ground, I liked the look of it better than GWs for this army. I also wanted to add on to the bad condition of the equipment of the troops with some harsh environment. So I settled for snowbases, combined with dead grass and moss.

I will keep adding on units as soon as they are completed.

Latest update: Aug 29th 2009.

The first platoon I built. I have lots of bitz from my Deathkorps and this autocannon I had kept with an army like this in mind.

Here's my favorite piece in the army. The Medusa Siege Gun. I was painful chipping it and clipping off parts to weather such a nice model.

These compete for the no 1 spot. Scratch built Tarantula Sentry Guns with Twinlinked Heavy Bolters.

My only HQ, an Aspiring Champion. I usually just equip him with a plasma Pistol and a Power Weapon, cheap and disposable :)

These guys a bad on paper but rock in games. I think it's just because people leave them alone, they don't bother with such a bad investment on my end, Heavy Stubber teams???

So of course they perform amazingly every time.

These Heavy Bolters should be a lot better but do nothing most of the time.

Some more Special Weapons.

I love these ones too, but hey are they hard to get some return out of. They just melt themselves every game.
